We recently took the time to review ibVPN, which can help protect your personal information when browsing the internet. The company has provided its services to more than one million clients to date. Below, we’ve provided a breakdown of the product so that you can determine whether it’s the best VPN solution for you.
What is ibVPN?
According to the company website:
The company is located in Romania. ibVPN is compatible with an array of devices, including:
- Google Chrome Extension
- Opera Extension
- Firefox Add-On
This VPN features a smart DNS and Proxy. Customers can connect up to five devices simultaneously when using this service. Those using ibVPN can also select a server that best meets their needs.
For instance, users can choose between servers optimized for TOR with VPN, DoubleVPN, and P2P traffic. Users will receive a dedicated IP address that is not being used by any other customer.
The service also allows users to choose the tunneling protocol that best meets their needs. Users will receive 256-bit encryption by default.
After conducting a thorough ibVPN review, we found that there was a lot to like about the service.
No Data Logging
One of the first things that stood out to us was the fact that ibVPN does not log user data. ibVPN put this in its Terms of Agreement. Customers can trust that the company is not collecting data and selling it to third-party companies, which often tends to be the case with other VPN providers.
Commitment to Security
We were also impressed with the fact that ibVPN made such a commitment to security and privacy, no matter who is using the product. For instance, OpenVPN is universally known as the best tunneling protocol available.
However, it does not work very well on iOS devices. ibVPN provided users with the ability to change protocols. This capability ensures that the VPN service works well and also keeps customer data safe.
Similarly, OpenVPN may not work as well on old computers. You can protect your information, no matter what device you’re using. And, the company provides various setup guides that will help you make the switch from one to the other.
Ability to Watch Netflix
Many people use VPNs to watch Netflix and other video streaming sites. Doing so allows individuals to spoof their locations so that they can gain access to a broader array of content that is usually blocked due to geo-restrictions. Unfortunately, Netflix caught wind of this and installed a blocker designed explicitly to block VPNs. However, Netflix‘s blocker is not fool-proof. It doesn’t find every VPN.
When we tested ibVPN, we found that we could access Netflix on an array of servers. Not all of the servers allowed us to do so, but a good majority of them did.
Although we were quite impressed when conducting our ibVPN review, things weren’t perfect. There were a few things that we would like to see improved.
Any time you use a VPN, you can expect a slowdown in performance. However, some VPNs are better than others. Unfortunately, ibVPN does not rank near the top. When conducting our ibVPN review, we compared the service to various baseline figures to determine how well it stacked up. We used a download benchmark of 97 Mbps and an upload benchmark of 55 Mbps.
When we tested ibVPN on a European server, our download speeds were around 65 Mbps, and our upload speeds were roughly 41 Mbps. When we tested the service on a server based in the United States, the download speeds plummeted to a measly 15 Mbps, while the upload speeds dipped to 13 Mbps.
Ease of Use
Although ibVPN offers numerous features, it could be too challenging for someone who does not have much technical experience. This VPN service is not intended for beginners. Instead, it’s best for those who have experience using VPN products. We found it a bit challenging to use the service when we conducted our ibVPN review.
There are numerous options that customers can choose from when purchasing ibVPN. The product is not free, although the company does offer a trial period of 24 hours.
Customers can purchase the Ultimate VPN for about $11 per month. If they order an annual subscription, the cost drops to about $4.83 per month or $58 per year. Customers also have the option of subscribing in six-month increments. This costs around $7 per month or $86 per year. This plan provides customers with things such as unlimited bandwidth and five simultaneous connections.
Users could also elect to purchase a Standard VPN, which does not provide access to a SmartDNS. This plan costs around $37 per year or $5 per month. Customers also only receive access to one connection instead of five.
If ibVPN offered better performance speeds, this would be one of the highest-rated VPN services available. We really appreciated things such as the no-logging policy, along with the fact that it worked with Netflix.
The fact that customers can customize the VPN experience is a huge plus. We found that this made for a streamlined experience, no matter what type of device we were using. If you have experience using VPNs, this product is worth your consideration.
