What We Like About VPN.ac

At first glance, everything checks out well for VPN.ac. It offers industry-standard data protection at a manageable price. Let’s look at the best features of VPN.ac.

The Need For Speed

VPNs add an extra encryption layer which usually results in slower download and upload speeds. We were blown away by the speeds on VPN.ac servers; we experienced little to no speed reduction during our research.

For a server in the US, we saw a speed of 58.53 Mbps, not bad.

When we checked out a server in The Netherlands, we only experienced a 9% reduction in download speeds. That makes VPN.ac one of the fastest VPNs we have ever reviewed.

Strong Encryption

What good is a VPN that doesn’t keep your identity safe? All the features and everything is nice, but you are using a VPN to protect yourself and stay anonymous online.

With VPN.ac, you won’t have to worry about anyone gaining access to your data. This service uses the best of the best; OpenVPN and AES 256-bit encryption.

In addition to keeping your identity safe and secure, It also has a killswitch like Nordvpn, which is vital if you care worry about leaking your data to your isp.

No Logging Policy

We finally found a policy that is true and honest. Many VPNs tell you that they don’t store your information, but in a roundabout way, they do. VPN.ac comes right out in its privacy policy and explains that it does not log or monitor your activity, but it keeps connection logs for performance purposes.

It most likely erases that data after a specific period, and it’s not that big of a deal anyway. The problem comes when VPNs are storing information like IP addresses and personal information, but VPN.ac is not.

Romanian Jurisdiction

Romania is outside the 14 eyes security alliance, which is another great perk for those seeking privacy. Romania also has decent laws that prevent the government from being able to demand information from a VPN and its servers. Your data is safer in Romania than it would be in the US or most other places in the EU.

What We Dislike About VPN.ac

Although there is a lot that we love about VPN.ac, we do have to mention some of its downsides. Here are the biggest issues we have with this VPN.

Dysfunctional App

The app itself looks fantastic. It’s incredibly user-friendly, and it looks really clean. However, during our research, we found that users experienced issues with the app wrongly displaying that they were connected to a server in a country, when in fact they, weren’t. This means that the app is displaying the wrong locations, or VPN.ac could be using fake servers.

No Netflix

During our research, we discovered that Netflix does not work on any of VPN.ac’s servers. If you are looking to stream your favorite movies and TV shows, you’ll need to move along. Get expressvpn or nordvpn instead.

Forget About Tor

While a VPN provides enough privacy benefits for its users most of the time, it is also possible to go a step further. Tor browser has its own unique privacy benefits and when combined with the use of a VPN, it is considered to be one of the most secure ways to browse the web. However, not all VPNs are compatible with Tor, and unfortunately, VPN.ac is one of them.

Our Verdict

VPN.ac doesn’t really have much going for it, its okay, but okay isn’t enough these days. Especially when you have such VPN’s like Nordvpn, Expressvpn, Surfshark etc.

You get great speeds, top of the line security and decent customer service. The main issues we see with this VPN is its lack of features. You cannot use it with Tor and Netflix, or for Torrenting, which is what a lot of people use VPNs for.
