VPN.ht Review For 2020: Decent, But One Major Drawback

VPN.ht has some great features like fast server speeds and access to Netflix. We provide a complete rundown of what this service has to offer in this comprehensive VPN review.

VPN.ht is a service that was introduced about five years ago by a company called Wicked Technology Unlimited. Is it worth considering for those in search of a VPN?

Below, we’ve conducted an extensive VPN.ht review so that you can determine whether you should download this product or not.

What is VPN.ht?

VPN.ht is a VPN service that has fast conection speeds and excellent security features. The company uses AES-256 encryption, the same encryption standard used by the United States government.

Additionally, VPN.ht relies on the OpenVPN tunneling protocol, proven to be one of the most effective ways to protect your information when using a VPN service.

One of the things that stands out most is that users can connect to Netflix when using this service. Netflix has put blockers in place that prevent its customers from being able to geo-spoof their locations with a VPN to get around the geo-restrictions on content that Netflix has.

However, it appears that VPN.ht is able to slip past Netflix’s blockers. When compiling our VPN.ht review, we tested Netflix on five servers and found that the site worked on every single one. VPN.ht provides access to 128 servers in 23 countries.

You can also use it for torrenting, although there are way better options for vpns that support torrenting here.

According to the company website, you can use the service on numerous devices and operating systems, including popular choices like Windows, Android, and Mac. However, you can only use VPN.ht simultaneously on three devices at once.

Pros

A few features really stood out to us when we conducted our VPN.ht review. Below, you’ll find some of the most outstanding features.

No Logging of Data

Many VPN service providers claim not to log your data. However, upon digging further, we find contradictory information in the company’s privacy policy.

This is not the case when it comes to VPN.ht. The company claims that it does not log your data and can back up the claim by stating as such in the privacy policy. Knowing that their personal information is safe should give customers peace of mind.

Speed and Performance

We also found that VPN.ht offers serviceable speed and performance. While it’s not the best that we’ve come across, it’s also not the worst. We used benchmarks of 95 Mbps for downloads and 50 Mbps for uploads.

During testing, we found that download speeds on the European Union server were around 90 Mbps, while upload speeds were about 44 Mbps.

Things were a bit slower in the United States. Download speeds on this server were around 29 Mbps, while upload speeds were about 12 Mbps.

We wish that this performance was a bit more consistent, but the potential for high speeds and performance demonstrated on the EU server were enough to catch our attention.

Excellent Customer Support

One of the other things that stood out to us about VPN.ht was the fact that its customer support team was so responsive and helpful.

VPN.ht provides customers with a knowledge center that they can use to research answers to the various question that they may have.

If customers cannot find the answers to their questions in the knowledge center, they can open a support ticket. Someone from the VPN.ht team will respond to customers within a couple of hours.

Cons

While there were some things that we liked about VPN.ht, there were also some things that caused concern.

IP Leaks

During testing, we found that VPN.ht was susceptible to IP leaks. When IP leaks occur, your original IP address is exposed to hackers.

When conducting tests, we found that VPN.ht suffered from IP leaks 50% of the time. This is quite concerning, especially when considering that VPN.ht is a paid service.

Why pay for a service that’s not going to work?

Lack of a Kill Switch

Kill switches are useful because they protect you if your VPN connection is suddenly interrupted. Nordvpn has the most advanced one on the market.

The kill-switch cuts off your unprotected internet connection untill you are able to reconnect to a VPN server. Unfortunately, VPN.ht does not come with a kill-switch. So if you are looking for real privacy, choose another vpn! We recommend Nordvpn or expressvpn, read the breakdown here “nordvpn vs expressvpn

Pricing Info

If you’re looking to purchase VPN.ht, there are a couple of plans that you can choose from. A standard monthly subscription costs about $5 per month, although the company is currently offering customers the first month of service for merely $1.

Customers could also purchase a year subscription for about $40, which equates to less than $3.50 per month.

VPN.ht also offers a 100 percent money-back guarantee for the first 30 days of your subscription.

Final Verdict

On the surface, VPN.ht seems like an excellent option as a VPN service provider. The service is affordable, and the company does not log data, something that sets it apart from many other VPN providers.

Additionally, download and upload speeds have the potential to be quite fast. And, the service works with Netflix, which is a huge perk.

However, we cannot get past the fact that VPN.ht is so far behind when it comes to security. Although the company uses 256-bit encryption and the OpenVPN tunneling protocol, IP leaks are a huge concern.

The bottom line is that IP leaks should not happen, especially if paying for the product. If you’re investing in a VPN service, you want to have peace of mind knowing that your personal information is secure. Unfortunately, this is not the case when using VPN.ht.

For that reason, we can’t recommend VPN.ht. If there were no IP leaks and a kill-switch, this product would be top-notch. But without them, VPN.ht is a run-of-the-mill VPN service.

  1. Your review on vpn.ht is not accurate at all. Their customer service has been terrible lately especially after the Wuhan virus took over the world, as they are operating from that area.
