VPNArea is based in Bulgaria. This VPN company started in 2012, and since then, it has grown to have 212 servers in 70 different countries. It also claims to be lighting fast and very secure. In this review we are going to take a deep dive into this vpn and see if it really lives up to the hype.
VPNArea ReviewDuring our research, we also want to keep a few additional factors in mind.
- Performance
- Security
- Privacy
- Features
Let’s see how VPNArea stacks up against some of its main competitors.
Understanding VPNArea
From the second you land on its website; you realize that the main selling point is its speed. VPNArea wants you to know that its 200+ servers allow it to have some of the fastest download and upload speeds in this realm.
VPNArea claims that the reason its server speeds are so fast is that it doesn’t “overcrowd” them. It has dedicated servers, and it sets a maximum occupancy on those servers. This prevents any users from experiencing delays.
With VPNArea, you get apps for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS, plus you also can configure the service to your router. It has an anti-DNS leak feature, and it has a built-in kill switch which is a significant selling point for us.
Everything is looking good for VPNArea.
The Cost of VPNArea
VPNarea is a medium priced VPN, it isn’t expensive, but it’s not cheap either. All the plans offer the same features, but the only thing that changes is the amount you pay based on the package you choose.
Here is a general breakdown of VPNArea’s pricing:
- One month – $9.90 per month
- 12 months – $4.92 per month ($59 every 12 months)
- 36 months – $2.99 per month ($107.64 every 3 years)
What We Like About VPNArea
By now, you should have a solid understanding of how this VPN service works. Now we need to cover the finer details. Here are all the things we like most about VPNArea.
Strong Security
The most important thing to look for in a VPN is privacy. You want to make sure that your IP address is hidden and that your identity remains anonymous. If a VPN can’t at least do that, what good is it?
VPNArea has secure 256-bit encryption with OpenVPN protocol. These are the same standards that the government and military use to protect their data. With this service, you won’t have to worry about any of your valuable information falling into the wrong hands.
No Logging
The jurisdiction in Bulgaria is a major bonus because the country has strict no logging laws that would prevent VPNArea from keeping much of your personal information even if it wanted to. VPNArea is careful with what information it collects, and it only takes exactly what it needs for you to use its service.
Netflix and Torrenting
Usually, by now we’d be discussing everything that’s wrong with this VPN. Luckily, there aren’t many bad features on VPNArea. On top of great security and no logging, you also get access to geo-restricted content on Netflix and P2P servers for torrenting.

Live Chat
When you’re dealing with personal information and privacy, you want to make sure there is someone on the other end to help you if you need it. Many VPNs offer a ticketing system that requires you to fill out a form on their website and wait for a reply.
We all know how that works.
You needed an answer five minutes ago, and now you have to wait 24-48 hours to hear back from someone who will tell you to check their FAQ page.
Luckily, VPNArea offers a live chat but does it have a fast response time? On its FAQ page, it says that you usually reach a representative within four hours, but you could get someone immediately on the live chat.
During our research, we found a user got a response from the live chat in less than one minute. The representative was helpful and efficient. He handled all the questions and answered them clearly and concisely.
What We Dislike About VPNArea
We spoke too soon. If you were expecting to find the perfect VPN that is completely free from flaws, you’d have to keep dreaming. VPNArea does have some issues, here they are.
Forget Speed
One of its major claims to fame is the speed of its servers. During our research, we found that some users reported having fast connection speeds, while others said it was slow. Some users reportedly experienced download speed drop-offs as high as 80-90% on some servers; we’re talking 10 Mbps, not good. Especially not good when speed is supposed to be a selling point here.
However, most reports and reviews indicate that VPNArea’s speeds are good, and as it has such an abundance of servers, users should be able to easily find a faster server if they connect to a slow one.
Our Verdict
VPNArea has some good points.
It uses the best protocol and encryption, which is what you need for a secure VPN. On top of that it allows torrenting and you can unblock netflix (although speed may be an issue).
While it does provide a decent server package, the reports by some users of slow speeds is a little concerning.
Overall, VPNArea looks like an average option. We wouldn’t personally use the service because there are just better choices out there. Like Nordvpn or Expressvpn for example, they are just better in every regard.
At the end of the day, the most important thing for a VPN to provide is an anonymous IP address and a secure encrypted tunnel for your internet traffic to pass through, ensuring your privacy online. VPNArea does this very well.
