The creator of the first antivirus software and longtime crypto supporter John McAfee has decided to run for U.S. Presidency again. He tweeted to his followers, on Sunday night, announcing that he is looking forward to standing for the crypto community during the 2020 U.S. Presidential elections. He cited that his campaign will be the “ultimate platform” for the use of digital currencies, sending waves of joy in the American crypto market.
Another Year, Another Presidency
“In spite of past refusals, I have decided to again run for POTUS in 2020. If asked again by the Libertarian party, I will run with them. If not, I will create my own party. I believe this will best serve the crypto community by providing the ultimate campaign platform for us.”
He was a part of the 2016 elections and the nominee of the Libertarian Party. However, he lost the game to Gary Johnson, who is a former New Mexico governor. This time, however, the situations are much different.
In 2016, cryptocurrencies were still budding in the outskirts of the financial industry but, right now, they are more mainstream than the blue-chip stocks of top corporations. Also, the industry is under severe stress at the moment, owing to the onerous regulatory pressures from the SEC.
With McAfee in the race for the elections, the crypto community is gearing for their biggest stage. If he wins, he will not only promote but also secure these digital currencies as a method of payments, security or even as a simple tradable asset against fiat currencies.
Very open minded and standing for unique issues, McAfee previously focused on decriminalization of cannabis and free trade. His focus in 2020 is, almost, exclusively on the use of digital currencies.
The Story Behind the Story
His decision to announce his Presidential run comes right after he launched the McAfee Redemption Unit (MRU), which is a new crypto-backed fiat currency. He remains confident that the use of virtual coins will be growing in the years to come and they will be used exactly like fiat currencies.
“It is not a speculative investment even though it is being used as such by many people. As the Bitcoin network grows the value of Bitcoin grows. As people move into Bitcoin for payments and receipts they stop using US Dollars, Euros, and Chinese Yuan, which, in the long-term, devalues these currencies.”
As one of the leading followers of Libertarianism, it is only likely that the antivirus magnate will be making his stake to the Presidential post once again. The idea of having fewer regulations and imposing a smaller number of rules make libertarianism and cryptocurrencies similar to each other.
A decentralized and people-centric network that enables payments and investments across the world, without worrying about central banks and governmental pressures, is only telling of the cause that the Libertarian party stands for.
They, however, have not announced their candidates yet. Also, it is important to note that there is a faint possibility of McAfee just grabbing headlines for his new venture.
