If 2017 was the year of cryptocurrency, then 2018 will be the year of the crypto wallet. The hugely popular bitcoin.com wallet has received almost 2 million downloads and has announced that they will implement support for Shapeshift. Meanwhile, the San Diego-headquartered firm, Edge has just launched their wallet service that promises a user-friendly, open-platform, secure, and multi-asset wallet after their three-month beta version.

Edge wallet launched

Paul Puey made the official announcement of Edge wallet’s launch. Puey stated that the Edge multi-asset wallet is finally active after a year of intensive development followed by a limited beta release that was stretched over three months.

Edge has already been welcomed in the bitcoin community, where the majority of members already call it Airbitz, another massively popular bitcoin directory and wallet service that has been active as far back as 2014.

However, in 2015, the company stated that they’d packaged the Airbitz essential tools into a software development program known as a kit (SDK) which any developer could freely use to create their own projects. Ever since this announcement, the software has been used in a variety of blockchain projects such as Openledger, Augur, and Wings. The SDK kit allowed the company to place the emphasis on security, and during October last year, the company announced that they intended to implement a new change.

Puey is a force within his own right within the crypto industry and has already established himself as an expert and leader when it comes to cryptocurrency. Wallets play a significant role in the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies and Puey believes that the Edge wallet will play a vital role in creating a simpler and easier user experience without having to compromise security. Considering that crypto wallets are responsible for storing thousands of fiat currency worth of cryptocurrency, security truly is everything.

Several major wallet services have been corrupted in recent memory including Parity and Nicehash thanks to insufficient security. However, Puey explained that Edge wallet offers its users three core features which enhance their user experience. It offers its users a single sign-on solution for all decentralized apps, a private and ultra-secure personal vault, as well as a user-friendly interface that can be used for all major blockchain networks.

Crypto wallets strive to do more

Edge Wallet has an impeccable security record which speaks for itself. The wallet service will offer native support for several cryptocurrencies including augur REP, bitcoin cash, dash, wing tokens, litecoin, ether, and bitcoin core. In addition, Puey stated that Edge is the only available multi-asset wallet that enables users to manually add any ERC-20 based token that the wallet does not offer native support for. The wallet also supports any SegWit transactions and has implemented Shapeshift to ensure that users can conveniently convert their cryptocurrency.

However, Edge still has big plans for the future. According to the company’s roadmap, they will be adding unique features such as mobile top-ups and a fiat currency exchange service in the near future. The company hopes that their wallet will be simple enough to use for any mainstream users and encourage industry growth.
